EUROBAT Annual Event 2026 reinforces industry’s commitment to innovation, collaboration and Europe’s battery future

EUROBAT's Annual Event 2026 brought together together Europe's leading automotive and industrial battery manufacturers and battery value chain stakeholders on 17 June in Brussels.

The one-day event featured EUROBAT's General Assembly, Technology & Industry and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Cluster sessions, the Associate Members Meeting and a networking reception, providing members with an opportunity to exchange expertise, discuss the latest policy and market developments, and shape the association's priorities for the year ahead.

Opening the General Assembly, EUROBAT President Raymond Ackermann underlined the strategic importance of batteries for Europe's industrial future and stressed the need for a strong, credible and united industry voice in Brussels. During the General Assembly, EUROBAT's successes for the year were looked at, along with the priorities for the rest of year.

A key milestone of this year's event was the official launch of the EUROBAT Battery Innovation Roadmap 2035, setting out the association's vision for battery research, innovation and industrial deployment over the next decade.

The roadmap demonstrates how continued innovation across multiple battery chemistries—including lithium, lead, sodium and nickel technologies—will be essential to meeting Europe's diverse mobility, energy storage and industrial needs. It also highlights the growing importance of emerging high-TRL technologies such as solid-state and sodium-ion batteries, alongside new application areas including defence, robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT).

With the global battery market projected to reach 7.25 TWh by 2035, the roadmap emphasises that no single battery chemistry can satisfy every application. Instead, Europe's future competitiveness will depend on maintaining a technology-neutral approach that supports innovation across the full spectrum of battery technologies while accelerating the commercial deployment of sustainable manufacturing.

The roadmap also explores the increasing role of digitalisation, the Battery Passport and implementation of the EU Battery Regulation in creating a more circular, resilient and competitive European battery value chain.

The roadmap was presented during the General Assembly by Erwin Marckx (EUROBAT), Dr. Bernhard Riegel (HOPPECKE Batteries) and Dr. Nadia Acerbi (FIAMM Energy Technology), recognising the collaborative work of EUROBAT members and experts who contributed to its development.

Throughout the day, members also discussed key European policy developments, including the Industrial Accelerator Act, implementation of the Batteries Regulation and the progress of the PBG BREF process, while exchanging technical expertise across EUROBAT's Technology, Industry and EHS Clusters.
